Welcome to the course website for Games Design as Cultural Practice, an upper-division undergraduate and graduate level course that uses the critical analysis and production of video games to engage with critical issues of contemporary American culture.  

Students in this course can expect to:
  • play a range of independent games;
  • read a selection of contemporary gaming scholarship and game design texts;
  • prototype and playtest 5 games in response to a series of prompts; 
  • develop 1 game to functional completion via Unity

GaTech Students: Please note that assignment submissions and grades will all take place and be maintained via T-Square. As well, pdfs for readings from sources other than our primary textbook will be uploaded there, in accordance with Fair Use.
